Fairies Baseball

I’ve always loved non-fiction and as a screenwriter and photographer, it felt very natural to turn to filmmaking. But holy fuck filmmaking is expensive! Yes, I know all you need is an iphone and an app to edit, but the kind of filmmaking I love and aspire to do needed a little bit more than that - and until you’ve produced one film, no one, NO ONE is going to give you any money to make something. So Fairies Baseball, a love story for dance, was born out of nothing but the goodwill of amazing creatives who worked for a pittance. I paid them from money I earned as a screenwriter, and we all got paid the same. Except me. I got the bill.

It took me a long time, but Fairies Baseball is now finished and is up for submission on the festival circuit. I’ll keep you updated on its journey.

Meanwhile, my BBC1 show, thwarted with multiple disasters, limps on bravely with a July 15th end date. The wonderful actors and crew have had to work with so many things against them (not least COVID) and I’m so impressed by their tenacity and professionalism. It hasn’t been an easy show to make and personally I suffered a lot during the development and production. Nothing good comes without blood, pain and tears….
